Josef Newgarden of Team Penske defended his Indy 500 title to win the 2024 event after setting the fastest pole speed in Indy history. Penske locked out the front row for the first time since 1988.
There was a long delay caused by rain, and the race started a 4:44 PM EST. The result was only decided on the last lap, when Newgarden overtook Pato O’Ward on turn 3.
