USF 2000:

Nico Christodoulou who usually competes in the GB3 Championship in the UK took a break from his regular season and competed in a one-off USF2000 race. He claimed an impressive victory for VRD Racing in the Cooper Tires Grand Prix of Toronto.

Christodoulou grew up in Toronto and had the chance to race on the streets of his hometown for the first time. He felt right at home on the 11-turn street circuit taking the lead with five laps remaining.

Overnight rain caused the temporary circuit to be dangerously wet as the 19 cars began their race. The intensity of the race increased as the track began to dry.

Polesitter Simon Sikes made a slight error under braking for Turn Three in the final laps of the race. Sikes finished in Second place, his 11th podium finish of the season, he now holds an astounding 69-point lead for the season.

Rounds 16-18 are set to take place in Portland Oregon August 31-September 3.

INDY NXT Series:

The 2023 season for INDY NXT by Firestone has reached the halfway point. Fourteen races have been completed with six different drivers entering victory lane.

The opening race in St. Petersburg Florida set the bar high for the 2023 season. The unpredictable race that included a 14-turn street circuit and drivers Siegel and Foster were early standouts. Danial Frost started his third season in the series off strong with a win that came from a last lap pass.

Louis Foster who drives the No. 26 Copart/USF Pro Championship for Andretti Autosport, became the sixth driver in the season’s first seven races to reach victory lane. Jamie Chadwick finished 10th in the No. 28 also driving for Andretti Autosport to become the first female driver in INDY NXT to finish in the top 10 in the 2010 season at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

The series’ next race, the eighth of 14 this season, is the INDY NXT by Firestone at Iowa Speedway on July 22 at 11 a.m. ET, on Peacock.
